With the Corona virus pandemic and request to socially isolate this can be a stressful time to be pregnant. Calling 811 with your questions is always an option and if you have a medical emergency go to the hospital. Otherwise you can call the clinic and speak with your doctor or call a new number and speak to an Obstetrician and Gynecologist to see if your problem can be handled over the phone or if you really need to go to the hospital or other appointments until it is considered safer. 403-334-0370. This phone number does not replace any other existing phone numbers or resources but it meant to provide another option in these stressful times. Stay healthy and listen to the self isolation recommendations.

Models Needed for Ultrasound Course

The Drumheller Associated Physicians are looking for Volunteers to participate in an Emergency Department Echo (Ultrasound) course that the Physicians in Drumheller are taking here at the Drumheller Health Centre October 5 & 6, and November 2 & 3.

Everyone is welcome and can come for multiple days if willing. Blanket criteria for males and female participants are as follows:

Females
Must be over 16, not Menopausal, and not have had a Hysterectomy.

Males
Must be over 16 years, and need to be comfortable being shirtless.

What will happen during this course: As one of the healthy volunteers, you will show the doctors what a normal person looks like ( on the inside) so that they can recognize the abnormal pictures more quickly.  While you are with us, the doctors will put an ultrasound probe on your tummy and move it around. THIS WILL NOT HURT AND IT IS NOT DANGEROUS. It can get a little gooey, though, as we have to use a special kind of gel to make contact between the probe and your skin.

  • On October 5 we will need 15 Females available 12:15pm-4:50pm and 15 Males available 8:00am -11:45am on this day these models would need to be on the thin to average size as this helps to see the anatomy clearly and quickly.
  • On October 6 times required for models to be available is either at 8:00am, 10:00am, 1:00pm, or 3:00pm. Each time will have a group consisting of 8 models. Each group will need to be available for 2 hours. On this day models of any stature are welcome.
  • November 2 we are in need of 26 Females and 6 Males and November 3 we will need 10 females and 2 males (times required for these days to be confirmed).

Please note that there is a fair amount of dead time when other people are being scanned, so you should bring a book or other entertainment.

Your participation is very important and we appreciate very much your taking the time to help us.

Proof of participation will be given which participants may use on resumes and towards volunteer hours.  RN and LPN’s can participate as auditors and will be given a certificate which can be used for their yearly education allotment.

We ask that anyone interested in participating to please contact the Drumheller Associated Physicians Business Manager, Sunday Welsh at 403-823-3345 ext. 310 or [email protected] to be given all the information required for the event during the clinic hours 8:30 to 5:00 Monday to Friday.   This is open to anyone to participate.

DAP in the Community

The physicians and staff have been busy in the community this month.

We sponsored the 7th Annual Dinosaur Trail Triathlon June 2, providing refreshment at the aid station in Midland for the running portion of the race and a medical presence (Dr. Beach) at the finish line. Our volunteers were positioned at the halfway point encouraging competitors on their final leg.

The Dinosaur Trail Triathlon offers a Sprint distance of 750 meter swim, 20 km bicycle and 5 km run and Olympic distance of 1500 meter swim, 40 km bicycle and 10 km run. This year’s race had 23 competitors. Top three in the Olympic distance were Cam Morrison, Ben Borkovic and race organizer Morgan Syversten. The sprint distance was won by James Frede followed by Heather Frede and Barb Slemko.

Also on June 2, two of our physicians took part in the majestic Banff to Jasper relay race raising funds for Brain Tumour Foundation. Drs. Kim Hall and Christopher Blackburn were two parts of a 15 member team that ran the 260 km up the beautiful Icefields Parkway.

The Drumheller FCSS put on the Family Fun Picnic in the Park on June 6. Drumheller Associated Physicians took part in the Tug-of-War showing great determination and strength. Everyone had fun.
