Drink Responsibly

With New Year’s Eve fast approaching, let’s all remember to drink responsibly.

#DYK the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction has newly proposed guidelines for alcohol consumption

Canadians should stick to a maximum of two drinks per week to reduce their risk of negative health consequences.

Tips to reduce your drinking:

🍻 stick to the limits you’ve set for yourself

🍷 choose drinks with a lower percentage of alcohol

🍸 drink slowly in small sips and always have a pitcher of water on hand

🥤 for every drink of alcohol, have one non-alcoholic drink

🍹 try some alcohol-free cocktail recipes

Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about your alcohol consumption.

#12DaysofHolidaySafety

On the 12th Day of Christmas…know the risks.

Across Canada, we face a number of hazards, such as earthquakes in BC, blizzards in Nunavut and ice storms in Ontario. Knowing the risks where you are can help you better prepare and eliminate stress… especially during the holiday season.

On the 10th Day of Christmas…prevent illness.

Help prevent seasonal influenza from spreading by:

  • getting the influenza vaccine every year because the virus changes each year
  • washing your hands often
  • staying home when sick
  • cleaning and disinfecting surfaces frequently
  • maintaining good respiratory etiquette (for example, cover your cough, sneeze into a bent elbow, wear a mask if symptomatic)
  • avoiding or limiting time spent in crowded indoor places
  • minimizing close contact with anyone showing cold-like symptoms

A flu shot is the safest and most effective way to prevent infection, to reduce the severity of your symptoms if you do get sick, and to keep from spreading the virus to others: https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/influenza/influenza.aspx

On the Ninth Day of Christmas…prepare your vehicle for an emergency.

Install winter tires and make sure windshield washer fluid is always topped up. Prepare a kit to keep in your vehicle in case of an emergency, with items such as a blanket, a candle in a deep can and matches, and first aid kit with a seat belt cutter. Use this emergency car kit list to help you:  https://www.getprepared.gc.ca/cnt/kts/cr-kt-en.aspx
