#HealthAI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming research habits, but when it comes to health information, AI shouldn’t be used in isolation.
AI medical advice is new and currently unreliable — you should not take medical recommendations solely from AI.
Instead, if you happen to read medical advice on AI, bring your findings and questions to your family doctor. Together you can determine the best care plan for you.
Medical advice from AI should always be discussed with your doctor.

Medical Prescriptions & Supplements

Managing your medical prescriptions can be challenging – especially if you need more than one. 💊
If you are taking non-prescribed supplements, as well as medications prescribed by your family doctor, it’s also important to know how they interact with each other.
Your family doctor or pharmacist can help you review, understand and manage your medications, and report back to your doctor as needed.

Sometimes even the small things can add to stress

While you sit at your desk and ponder your plans for the sunny days ahead, here some ways to de-stress:
1. Close your eyes and breathe deep – try the 4-7-8 method. Inhale for four seconds, hold for seven, then release for eight. Repeat three times
2. Unlock your eyes from the screen with the 20-20-20 rule – every 20 minutes, take 20 seconds to focus on something about 20 feet (6 metres) away. This is great for reducing eye strain and giving you a small break
3. Declutter – because mess = stress. Take a moment to clear your working area and get things back into an organized state
4. Get active – virtually any form of physical activity can act as a stress relief
5. Get enough sleep, limit alcohol and caffeine. Avoid blue light 2 – 3 hours before bedtime
Looking for more guidance? Your family doctor can help you with other ways to reduce stress

#FamilyDoctor

Think having a family doctor just means a familiar face when you’re feeling unwell? Think again.
Research shows those with a family doctor don’t just receive better care, but live longer with better health, ultimately reducing hospital admissions and visits to the emergency room.
Studies even show the better the relationship with your family doctor, the better the health outcomes.
Here are some other benefits of having a family doctor:
· preventative care and disease management
· support to achieve your personal health goals
· medication management
· access to a team of health professionals, free programs and services through Alberta PCNs: https://bigcountrypcn.com/

May 7 is National Child & Youth Mental Health Day

Sunday, May 7 is National Child & Youth Mental Health Day.
Mental health is important at all ages This day is about building caring connections between young people and the caring adults in their lives.
Take the time today and every day to engage in caring and connected conversations with your kids.
Did you know about half of those with mental health issues begin dealing with them at age 15?
It’s never too soon to start having caring, connected conversations with children and youth about mental health, which can have a lasting impact as they grow.
Connect with your family doctor to learn more about resources available in your area and find more information about talking to children and youth at:

It’s Mental Health Week

Mental Health Week is organized by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). The campaign aims to educate and shift attitudes and perceptions about mental health. 🧠

This year’s theme is ‘My Story’ – collectively and individually, we have multiple layers and stories that make us who we are. While each year one in five Canadians experience a mental illness or mental health issue, all of us have a state of mental health.

Sharing stories and experiences with each other, especially of difficult times and challenges, can benefit a person’s mental health and help others feel like they are not alone.

If you are looking for someone to talk to, a great place to begin with is your family doctor. They can help connect you with mental health professionals, programs and workshops offered by Big Country Primary Care Network
